About Us

Situated within the Cambrian Mountains, an 'Area of Astounding Natural Beauty', the last wilderness of Wales, and in a designated 'International Dark Sky Area' just 9 miles from the west coast, beautiful beaches, and villages,

We are a small, friendly, husband and wife run/owned site, offering a rural retreat in spectacular and beautiful surroundings - peace, quiet and tranquillity. 

A stay at Dolau Afon treats you to the morning bird song, the light of the glowing sunrise cascading up the valley wonderful night skies full of stars and far away galaxies, and an offering of wonderful walks that surround us (including the wonderful Hafod Estate).

The Ystwyth river snakes past the camping field, providing a tranquil and lovely spot where you can take a dip & wild swim in the pool under the bridge, or skim stones with the family. The Ystwyth valley has been known as 'Little Switzerland' for generations.

 

Dolau Afon also offers stays in our fabulous self-catering accommodation or space to camp on our woodland -surrounded touring campsite,

There are many opportunities for exploration and adventure, from walking, cycling or touring and star gazing.  With cycle route 81 and 82, and the 'Ystwyth Trail' starting 20m from the site. You might want to take advantage of our fishing rights, with a complimentary licence, to fish from our riverbank, (fly, lour and spinning, worm only.)

  • Explore the forests, valleys and hills of the Cambrian Mountains whilst relaxing and enjoying the spectacular scenery, there is so much to see. Our beaches and coves are delightful and the wildlife is amazing: from red kite, dolphins, seals and osprey to pine martin.

  • Or why not put the fun into funicular and hop on the cliff top railway in Aberystwyth, where on a clear day from the top you will see 26 mountain peaks, Devils Bridge, the Rheidol Valley and the Hafod Estate.

  • ​We are privileged to have 'Dark Skies' and twinkling stars, The area is designated as an international Dark Sky Park.

  • You can catch a show at the Arts Centre or fill your face with popcorn whilst you watch a film either in The Commodore Cinema or at the Ars Centre on the University Campus.

  • Not only have we all of the above, but we have Sustrans National Cycling route 81 and the Ystwyth Trail on the doorstep including - on site - fishing rights courtesy of Llanilar Angling Club (Worm and fly only). from our river bank.
