Dolau Afon is an independent, husband and wife owned and run site, that offers its camping guests a sheltered 1.5 acre flat grass site surrounded by trees. The owners live on site in the cottage adjacent, should you need assistance during your stay.

The shower and toilet facilities are spacious, and heated in the cooler months. Guests that need more room or have mobility issues will find our family shower room easy to use, big enough for a family of 4 to shower all at same time!

The camping field is adjacent to the river, with access via a gate in the corner of the field. We have picnic tables dotted around for our guests to use, that can be picked up and carried to your pitch.

For generations, the river has been a popular local swimming spot, and popular for canoeing, fishing, skimming stones or simply spending time at*.  We have fishing rights (courtesy of Llanilar Angling Club)  and a complementary licence is available on request.  (£10 deposit, refundable on return of licence) the site is an ideal location for walkers, explorers, adventurers and cyclists (Sustrans route 81) , with pathways and cycle trails immediately from our door.

(Please note, you enter the river at your own risk, we take no responsibility for your safety, this is a spate river and is a fast flowing river after a few days of rain).

What our guests say:

Tent Illustration

"We spent a delightful long weekend here over the May bank holiday. The site is a well hidden gem. The owners were friendly and helpful, but in no way intrusive. The site is a beautifully kept flat field surrounded by trees and next to the river Ystwyth. We were the only people on site the first night, and joined by one more camper van for two of the nights. The site has room for up to five caravans and 10 tents, so with just us there most of the time, it was really quiet and peaceful. The on-site toilet is a clean and well kept compost toilet.

This was fine for us over the weekend as we also have on board washing facilities. If the site was full of tents, it may be more of an issue.

There is lots of walking straight from the site. We had a lovely walk up the valley to a lovely little cafe in Pontrhydygroes; y Cwtsh which served delicious and reasonably priced food at lunchtime.

The river is easily accessed through a small gate in the field and is a lovely peaceful place to sit and contemplate.

The site is next to a small B road, but there is little noise from this as it’s not very busy!

We would definitely recommend it, and return ourselves."
